BLACK BUTTERFLIES follows Lobuin, Vanessa, and Soma—three women from different parts of the world who lose everything to climate change. Based on the testimonies of the climate change refugees, their stories reflect the struggle of countless others facing the same fate.

David Baute
e studied film directing at the Havana Film School, production of audiovisual programs at the Official Institute of Spain’s RTVE, and video and film editing at TAI, Madrid. He is currently the artistic director of the MiradasDoc Documentary Film Festival and the director of the International Environmental Film Festival of the Canary Islands (FICMEC). He has directed Ella(s) (2010), La murga, opera popular (2014) and Milagros (2018), which was selected in various national and international festivals and achieved international distribution on television. In 2020 he directed his latest documentary work, Climate Exodus, an anthropological and poetic film that addresses the drama of three women who migrate due to the consequences of climate change. The film won the Green Spike at the 65th SEMINCI.
