CCCL Film Festival 2025 Announces Winners of 9 Prestigious Awards

February 18, 2025, Bangkok – Changing Climate Changing Lives (CCCL) Film Festival proudly concluded with the announcement of the winners of six jury prizes and three special awards, recognizing outstanding achievement in short films with climate themes. The festival showcased a remarkable pool of talent from Asian filmmakers in its annual short film competition in non-documentary and non-documentary categories.


The nine winning films were among more than 800 submissions. The jury members for this year’s festival include Tara Buakamsri (Greenpeace Southeast Asia Co-founder of Greenpeace Southeast Asia), J. English Cook (Co-Founder and Artistic Director of the Climate Film Festival NYC), and Polen Ly (Filmmaker.)


The winners in the document category are:

  1. Grand Jury Prize (Documentary) – BIT BY BIT by Theingi Win Tin (Myanmar)

  2. Jury Prize (Documentary) – KENTARO by Tilmann Stewart, Gaku Matsuda (Japan)



  1. Special Mention (Documentary) – BENDEN SANA (OVER TO YOU) by Tao Farren-Hefer (Türkiye)


The winners of the non-documentary category are: 

  1. Grand Jury Prize (Non-documentary) – نمک فروشان  (SALT SELLERS) by Maryam Samadi (Iran)

  2. Jury Prize (Non-documentary) – 콘 (CONE) by Yoo Ji-In (South Korea)


  3. Special Mention (Non-documentary) – อเวจีสีขาว (ULTRAMARINE) by Thanaphat Puangsuwan (Thailand)


The winners of special awards are:

  1. Founder's Special Award recognizing films that promote voices of the unheard – เปลวไฟเมือง (URBAN FLAMES) by Atawee Khositpatipat (Thailand)


  2. Young Filmmaker Award recognizing outstanding filmmakers under the age of 25 – RED OCEAN by Jessada Khimsook (Thailand)


  3. Audience Award for the film that is the most popular among the audience each year – เปลวไฟเมือง (URBAN FLAMES) by Atawee Khositpatipat (Thailand)



On this occasion, CCCL was honored to have Ms. Sara Giugliano, Manager of the Cultural Department of Alliance Française Bangkok; Ms. Lena Lenzen, Director of Dili International Film Festival; Ms. Elyse Lacoste-Bédard, First Secretary (Migration) and Chair of the Embassy’s Environment Committee of the Embassy of Canada to Thailand; Mr. Fransiskus Tarmedi, Program Coordinator Regional Dialogue of  Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Southeast Asia; Mr. Manussa Vorasingha, films and series subcommittee of Thailand Creative Culture Agency (THACCA); Professor Siwatt Pongpiachan, Ph. D., Director of NIDA Center for Research & Development 

of Disaster Prevention & Management; Mr. Peter Eric Dennis, Main Sponsor; and Mr. Chalermpong Ruenyen, a representative from the Department of Cultural Promotion to present the awards. 


The awards were presented in recognition of the winners' exceptional creativity, vision, and impactful contributions to climate storytelling. Furthermore, following the flagship festival in Bangkok from February 17–23, 2025, over 20 partner organizations will host satellite screenings nationwide at various local venues, including schools, universities, and public spaces.


CCCL Film Festival is the first film festival in Southeast Asia that focuses on climate change. It serves as a platform for young filmmakers and communities in Southeast Asia and beyond to share their stories of climate impact, resilience, inspiration, and innovation. Founded in 2019, CCCL aims to raise awareness about climate change through the power of short films and inspire action locally and internationally. Since 2020, CCCL has organized five annual film festivals, and provided production grants to 68 short film projects. CCCL provides support in climate storytelling and mentorship to young Southeast Asian filmmakers, and organizes film tours to schools and universities in Thailand. CCCL believes in the creative talent of youth and the inspirational power of storytelling. CCCL actively collaborates with partners at community, national and international levels.
